Roman Reigns’ leukemia diagnosis obviously had an impact on the WWE Universal Title match at Crown Jewel. Reigns was forced to relinquish the Universal Title after his diagnosis. This forced the title bout at Crown Jewel to become a one-on-one contest, Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman.
Brock Lesnar won the vacant title from “The Monster Among Men” after some assistance from acting Raw General Manager Baron Corbin. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reports that, before Roman Reigns’ diagnosis, he was actually scheduled to retain his title. However, once Roman Reigns informed WWE of his situation, the decision was made to put the title back on Brock Lesnar:
“The deal was, when Roman went down, Vince backed up the Brinks truck and felt with Roman gone they needed Brock. Brock’s last date was gonna be Crown Jewel. Roman Reigns was gonna win that match.
